We had such a successful showing at the St. George's tournament and we want to keep up the good work, so there is a lot planned for next practice! Basically, we are going to focus on having longer debates, with opposing teams and full formats speeches.
We'll start off the class with an explanation of rebuttal and an introduction to the website. When we finish that (around 3:30), we'll release the resolution and you'll have 10 minutes to prepare your sides. Then the debate! You'll debate and myself and Ms. Noel-Bentley will judge you and provide constructive feedback at the end. That will lead us towards the end of the class, at which point -those of you who have submitted media consent forms- will take pictures for the site.
As homework, you will be given a resolution for the next practice, so you can prepare it and lead an informed debate on the 11th. Additionally, those of you that want to be featured on the website under "The Debaters" page will be asked to write a small "about me" (see page for template of Mila's biography) of no more than a hundred-and-ten words. In this mini-bio, you should try and include some (not necessarily all) of the following elements:
1. Why you are in the debate club, or why you like debating
2. Any past debating experience you have
3. What you like to do in your spare time (hobbies, interests, passions, extra-curricular activities etc..)
4. Some interesting facts about yourself (achievements and awards, places you've travelled, things you're good at etc..)
5. What topics in debate or global affairs interest you
6. What you want to do when you grow up
7. Things that are important to you (family, friends, food, cellphones, Wifi, your debate coach - *cough, cough*)
8. What your goal is, either generally or in debate club
If you can answer any of these questions, your set with your mini-bio! See you in a few days!
